At 227 pounds I was miserable. I was on medication for high cholesterol, Rosacea and slept with a CPAP because my sleep apnea was so bad. My husband and I have always been very active but with each pound I gained my activity leveled slowed to the point that I was no longer able to keep up with him. I also found myself slowly dropping out of every activity I was involved in because of physical pain. I had plantar fasciitis in my left foot and was receiving cortisone shots in my heel quite frequently. Due to the way I was limping I quickly developed pain in my right knee and ended up wearing a brace. Needless to say I was a mess, both emotionally and physically. During one of my physical therapy sessions the therapist said to me “you know you are fighting a losing battle, your foot and knee won’t heal until you get some weight off and you can’t exercise to get the weight off until your foot and knee heal”. I went home and cried feeling so frustrated with how out of control I felt.
The very next day a co-worker asked if I wanted to go to a weight loss orientation with her. I decided to go to keep her company but soon found I was very interested in the procedure. Food has always been a battle with me. I have been on every diet known to mankind. As a family we try to eat whole and organic most of the time, but quantity for me was a constant struggle and I knew nothing else was working for me. I just could not seem to get my portions under control. Gastric Bypass surgery would give me the tool I needed to control my intake.
During my decision process I met with two other physicians at different hospitals before arriving at Nash. My husband was very nervous about me having the surgery and said he would not support my decision if I chose one of those doctors. When he personally met with Dr. Naziri and learned about Nash’s program he not only supported my decision but also has become my biggest fan.
At 8 months post-op I have lost almost a hundred pounds and have gone from a size 18/20 to a size 2/4. I am no longer taking any prescription medications and no longer have to sleep with a CPAP. More importantly I have my life back and my active lifestyle.
I do aerobics at least two times a week and walk for at least an hour most days. I can now run and play with my grandson and keeping up with my husband is no problem at all. My life has completely changed. So much so that we recently cancelled our trip to the Dominican Republic to lie on the beach for a much more active vacation where we will be hiking and zip lining through the jungle. Lying around is not as appealing anymore when you have a body that craves activity!
Having Gastric Bypass surgery is the best thing I have ever done for my family and more importantly myself. I have NEVER, not for one second, ever regretted my decision to have this surgery at the Nash Surgical Weight Loss Center.
