Educational Classes
- Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Outpatient Program (CROP) is a state-regulated, medically supervised
and EKG-monitored program for individuals with cardiovascular and pulmonary-related complications. There is a fee associated with this event. Call 962-3468 for more details.
- Understanding Clinical Trials--A very Important and Personal Decision, this FREE community education seminar will be led by Cynthia Hall-Thomas, clinical research nurse with the Nash Cancer Treatment Center on Sept. 14 from 6 until 7:15 p.m. in the Nash General Hospital auditorium. - What Every Citizen Needs to Know About Domestic Violence, a FREE community education seminar led by Meredith Holland, director of My Sister's House, will be held on September 28 from 6 until 7:15 p.m. in the Nash General Hospital auditorium. To register, call 252-962-8891.
- Surgical Weight Loss Education Classes - These classes are free to those interested in weight
loss surgery and are the first steps for entry into our program. Classes are held monthly starting at 8 a.m. in the Claude Mayo Surgery Pavilion. Please call 252-962-6503 for more information and to register. The next classes will be held September 7, Sept 14, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28.

- Prepared Childbirth - This three-day class focuses on the normal process of birth, including comfort measures and breathing and relaxation techniques that can be used during late pregnancy and labor. A tour of the Women’s Center is included in the class. The registration fee is $50 per couple. Classes are offered On Thursdays 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following dates:
November 4th, 11th, and 18th
- Weekend Prepared Childbirth - This one-day class is offered on Saturday. It focuses on the normal process of birth and utilizes the same materials and techniques as the Prepared Childbirth
class. It also includes a tour of the Women’s Center. The registration fee is $50 per couple. Classes are offered from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following dates:
October 9
- Big Kids - This one hour class helps prepare children for the birth of a new brother or sister. The class includes a tour of the Women’s Center geared just for children. The registration fee is $10 for the first
child and $5 for each additional child. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the following dates:
November 8
- Baby Care - This two hour class covers a variety of topics to help you feel more comfortable when caring for your newborn baby. Holding, diapering, cord care and bathing are some of the topics covered in this program with hands on practice included. The registration fee is $25 per couple. Classes will be held on the date below from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
November 9
- Family and Friends CPR - Offered twice a year, this informative two-hour class teaches life saving skills
and includes infant and adult CPR. This informal class is taught by certified CPR instructors and does not have any written tests. The registration fee is $25 per person or $40 per couple. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on September 13.
- Women’s Center Tour - The birthing suites in our newly renovated Women’s Center feature a home-like
environment combined with state of the art fetal monitoring. Tours of the Women’s Center will be conducted by the center’s director, who will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. There is no fee, but registration for the 30 minutes tour is required. Tours will be held from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:

- Breastfeeding Class - Do you have questions about breastfeeding? Our breastfeeding classes are offered on an individual basis to give you personalized attention so that you can have the knowledge that you need to get your breastfeeding experience off to a great start. Classes are 1 hour long and include an educational video, as well as time for our certified lactation consultant to answer any questions that you have. There is no charge for this service. - Diabetes Support Group meets monthly from 6:30 to 7:30 in the auditorium of Nash General Hospital. For more information, call 962-8854.
- Alcoholics Anonymous meets Fridays and Sundays at Coastal Plain Hospital from 6 to 7 p.m. Call 962-5000 for more information.
- Narcotics Anonymous meets Saturdays at Coastal Plain Hospital. For information, call 962-5000.
- Better Breather’s Club - A support group for individuals with pulmonary (lung) disease meets at the
HealthFirst Wellness Center the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. For more information,

- Healthy Hearts Support Group - This group will meet the first Wednesday of every month at 11:30 a.m. at the HealthFirst Wellness Center. For meeting information, call 962-3468. You do not have to be a heart patient to participate.
- Surgical Weight Loss Support Group - The Surgical Weight Loss Support Group is for those who have had bariatric surgery as well as those who are considering it. The next meeting will be Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Claude Mayo Surgery Pavilion. For more information, call 252-962-6503.
