NHCS Helps Raise Breast Cancer Awareness
12/29/2009
Nash Health Care teamed with Crossworks to provide breast cancer awareness and education to the community during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common type of canceri n local women. In the community, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among area Caucasians, and the second most common form of cancer for African-Americans.
A pink share band-delivered to various companies and enclosed in the Sunday edition of the Rocky Mount Telegram-served as a reminder to support friends, relatives and neighbors in the fight against breast cancer. Several events during the week, including a survivor's dinner held in the Nash Health Care Courtyard Café, emphasized the importance of education, celebration and prevention.
Nash Health Care worked extensively with Crossworks to help present the following educational activities: breakfast education panels with fitness experts from the HealthFirst Wellness Center, a survivor's dinner and a medical information panel featuring members of the Nash Health Care medical staff. Nash Health Care was also one of the sponsors of the American Cancer Society's radiothon, and employees Kendal Greco and Debbie Helmer were interviewed about the hospital system's PET/CT scanner and lymphedema services.

Members of the Nash Health Care Medical Staff answer questions and give presentations at the awareness event, held at the Golden East Mall. Participating physicians pictured are (left to right), Dr. Jennifer Orr (OB-GYN), Dr. Lisa Nelson-Robinson (surgery), Dr. Laura Jacimore (radiation oncology) and Dr. Francisco Castillos (radiation oncology).
