Lamm Honored in National Magazine

12/07/2008

Wanda Lamm, BSN, CIC, infection prevention coordinator at Nash Health Care, was honored as one of the Who's Who in Infection Prevention and was featured on the cover of Infection Control Today, a national magazine for health care professionals. Lamm was one of 18 nationwide selected for this honor.

Honorees were nominated by magazine readers, and represent health care workers dedicated to the highest level of patient safety. Lamm was also instrumental in helping organize communitywide disaster drills to help city and county professionals prepare for the unthinkable. In addition, Lamm was helping Nash Health Care prepare for bioterrorism emergencies long before the devastating events of 9/11 thrust the issue into the national spotlight.

"Teamwork is so important; no one can prepare for any of these events alone," Lamm said. "We are very fortunate to have individuals in this area who are willing to work together to address these threats."

This is not the first accolade for Lamm; in 2007, she was recognized as one of the Heroes of Infection Prevention by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). She was also the APIC -North Carolina Infection Control practitioner of the year. In addition, she was inducted as a member of The Great 100, Inc., a grassroots organization that annually recognizes the top 100 nurses in North Carolina.

"Wanda seeks out and takes advantage of every opportunity she can to further educate herself and those around her on these subjects," said Libbe Sasser, BSN, CIC, who nominated Lamm for the award. "She has spoken to area community service organizations, our local community colleges, local businesses and outreach classes for the community."

Lamm earned her associate's degree in nursing from Nash Technical Institute (now Nash Community College) and her bachelor's degree in nursing from Barton College. She has worked for Nash Health Care since 1978 and even volunteered at Nash General Hospital as a "candy striper" when she was a student at Northern Nash High School.
