Currently, NIMS surgeons offer over 30 different types of procedures using a laparoscopic or robotic approach.  Smaller incisions have replaced larger open incisions for most procedures.  These incisions are less painful, heal faster, have improved cosmesis, and typically have fewer complications.  Surgical blood loss is markedly reduced with minimally invasive techniques, and patients typically spend less time in the hospital post-operatively.

NIMS robotic surgeons currently employ the latest da Vinci Surgical Robotic platform, which allows for high-definition 3-D visualization, customized surgical instrumentation, and precise surgical maneuvers.  The da Vinci System scales, filters, and translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise micro-movements of the laparoscopic instruments.  These specifically engineered instruments feature a jointed-wrist design that exceeds the natural range of motion of the human hand; motion scaling and tremor reduction further interpret and refine the surgeon’s hand movements.   This cutting-edge technology allows NIMS robotic surgeons to perform complex pelvic and kidney operations safely, efficiently, with excellent clinical outcomes…..all using a minimally invasive approach.
