Each surgical weight loss candidate will go through the following steps:
Class - Each surgical candidate begins their journey by attending an educational class. The class teaches candidates about the types of surgical weight loss procedures, the risks involved, and what to expect throughout the process. Each candidate will have a one-on-one assessment with the program’s physician assistant and receive a comprehensive guidebook to help them on their journey. To register for a class, call (252) 962-6503.
Evaluation - Candidates will go through a series of evaluations to make sure they are medically and psychologically ready for surgery.
These evaluations will be scheduled by the program’s administrative coordinator.
Surgeon Visit - This appointment will take place after your consultations, evaluations, and clearances have been completed. At this visit, you will meet with the surgeon to make a final decision on your choice of procedure. In addition to a physical exam, he will discuss the specifics of the surgery along with the risks and benefits of the chosen surgery.
Pre-Op Visit - Once your surgery date has been set, you will be given an appointment to come in for lab work and final instructions related to the day of your surgery. You will also meet with the program's physician assistant to update your history and perform a physical exam.
Surgery - Your experience on the day of surgery will vary based on the type of surgery you have selected.
The introductory class and pre-op visit will provide more details on what you can expect.
Recovery - You will be in the hospital anywhere from a few hours to 48 hours depending on the type of procedure you choose. From that point, you will be discharged to home. Depending on the type of job you have, you may return to work as soon as you feel up to it. This can take anywhere from a few days up to 4 weeks, depending on the individual patient. It is important that after your surgery, you maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. But don't worry; you're not alone in this challenge. We've assembled a support group to assist you with the process
